Apply topically
Jan. 24th, 2006 06:59 pmI can't believe it took me until now to consider that life expectancy (even after adjusting out infant and childhood mortality) in the 1780s was quite a bit shorter than the present day.
Thus appointing an experienced, older-and-wiser jurist to a "lifetime" position meant they'd be fucking shit up for about 10 years - maybe 15 or 20 if they were on the young side to start with and lived longer than average.
Wonder if any of the Framers were demographically-minded enough to consider that.
I also wonder how many people are going to read this and say "well no shit. the rest of us have known about that for years."
