I have a dinner meeting scheduled tonight with the head (only?) person at the alumni association for this summer-school/camp/terrorist-training-facility I used to attend.

she's in seattle for a conference and found me through the CTY facebook group (which I think she created). in her email, she stated that she's new at her job and wants to meet "to learn more about your CTY experience and to hear your thoughts on alumni programs."

I assume she's probably meeting with a few other alums at other times during her visit, but am not certain.

so, I'm 95% sure that this is really just a pretense to get me seated face-to-face so that she can try to hit me up for money. which I would be happy to give if I had any to spare. which I don't. I have no problem telling her this, and she'll probably feel like talking with me isn't a total loss, because I'm at least amenable to the idea of tossing a bit their way if I ever *do* have any extra.

but that's 5 minutes of conversation right there.
then another 5 minutes about how much baltimore sucks.
I googled her and found that her previous job was at bryn mawr and I used to hang out there a lot, so that's another 5 minutes.

that leaves us with at least another 30-60 minutes of conversation - at least some of which is probably going to be "so, tell me your thoughts about alumni associations".

except I don't really have any. I mean, not beyond "they're usually annoying. they keep asking for money. it's nice to get a bulletin once in a while about what so-and-so is doing nowadays." I don't even fully understand the nature of the inquiry.

so I'm throwing it open - does anyone out there have any thoughts about alumni associations? anything especially cool that yours does/did? anything especially annoying? anything that would be super amazingly cool but you've never heard of one doing?

I guess if push comes to shove, I can simply say "they're usually annoying. they keep asking me for money. it's nice to get a bulletin once in a while about what so-and-so is doing nowadays" and then spend the next 45 minutes reminiscing about mandatory fun and matt boronson's hat and mr. 800-670 and such.
