ok, so I know this guy who's simultaneously a diaper fetishist and a furry fetishist. some of y'all know him too. others don't, so I'm not going to give his name. he's pretty out about it, but it's not my thing to tell.

anyway, the reason I'm bringing it up is that I've occasionally expressed astonishment that there's anyone else in the world besides him who's into that kind of thing, to which he's responded that there's a surprisingly large number.

so I was thinking about it this morning and found myself wondering - how much correlation is there between that number and the number of people born between 1965 and 1980 who grew up reading Bloom County and thinking that Opus (a furry in a diaper) was pretty cool?

also, I think PeeWee Herman is responsible for the popularity of the rave scene in America.

Explain. As a raver-ish type person, I'm not sure I see the connection.

I adored Opus and happen to own a fairly decent Bloom County collection, although my Far Side is much better.

I am *not*, however, into diapers. Having had to change my fair share of them. Non-disposables, too. Ish.

Nor am I into furries. Other than the furry cuffs on my nightstand, that is.

Pee Wee? Raves? You *must* explain. Inquiring minds...and all that.

Speaking of, have you seen the previews for some weird upcoming movie that he's in? Can't remember what genre it even was, just how shocked I was to see him so...old.

since when does opus wear a diaper? near as i can tell, he's usually naked, except for the occasional pajamas or hat.

unlike your other responders, i *totally* get the peewee herman connection. that whole crooked house...exaggerated affect...costumes and makeup...thing.

Opus? Am I the only one here old enough to remember BJ and the Bear and Any Which Way But Loose?

1. Furry isn't a fetish-- it's more of a cultural thing than a sexual thing (though not entirely without a sexual component).

2. In re: Opus and diapers, all I can tell you is this:

Actually, Opus never wore a diaper; when Berke Breathed stopped publishing Bloom County and created Outland, he had all the characters wearing BVDs.
Bloom Coubty was more interesting in 1981-82, when he was satirizing Joan Jett & the Blackhearts. ANybody remember Tess Turbo & the Blackheads?

Afterthought

I think more than Opus, babyfurs in my generation were influenced by Disney's "The Fox and the Hound". For the next generation, the big influence was "The Lion King".

Also, there's always this (http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=611350011&n=2&&Mytoken=12E4C8F8-CEA3-99B7-5713D37F298BF3E129662203).
